German ShepherdMy dad does not want a huge dog. He thinks it's very troublesome when you bring it to the vet. Yeah, I agree. I still remember our family 1st dog. A huge female German Shepherd. We use to ride her like horse when we were kids. Imagine her size. Dad had to carry her into the car like some heavy weight whenever it's time for vet visitation. Though she looked fierce and can seriously bite off your head if you provoke her, she was incredibly gentle and loyal to us.
Maybe something not so fierce, how about a Golden Retriever?
Golden RetrieverGotta admit that Goldie is one of the most beautiful large dogs around. Big, tough, beautiful and fun. What more can you ask? But, it's a large dog so it's going to be a NO NO for my dad.
Alright, how about a small toy dog? NO! I cant stand small tiny dogs. I dont really consider them dogs. I mean they dont actually bark, they sound more like yapping at such a high pitch voice. Dogs are creatures which bark at menacing voices, walk or run in large strides and can stare you to death with their scary eyes if they choose to. You dont stuff dogs into your handbags. They seem more like large breed of guinea pigs. I have a large garden for my dog to run and play in. I can afford a bigger breed. Small dogs which can escape through my gate? No thanks.
English Cocker SpanielSo a medium-sized breed seems to be the answer. I still remember the day we brought Happy home and my dad complained that he was too small. (Our previous dog was a monster-sized German Shepherd, remember?) I digressed.
Anyway, I started to research on med breed dogs. It came back down to Beagle and Cocker Spaniel. Alright, I'm biased. I have a soft spot for English Cocker Spaniel. They always remind me of Happy. But com'on, you have to agree that they are one of the most beautiful breed of that size. The fur, the colour, the features etc. They're not only adorable as puppies but beautiful as adults. Furthermore, they're a hunting and sporting breed. So they're agile, alert and incredibly fast. Beagle is not that bad too. They're adorable and playful. Though they tend to have more health problems than ECS. Happy did not give me much problems on his health. The only high maintenance was his ears. The fur tangling and it's prone to ear infections.
Damn. I'll never forget Happy. I need to get over it.
